Wow: the magic of buying two of them, I see.

121·2 days agoOk my wallet votes for buying components and doing the compute I need at home.
Not some bourgeois-approved libertarian fantasy about renting widgets of functionality.

123·2 days agoYes that precious silicon, the rarest of earthen elements of which we have so little.
And of course the fabrication of semiconducting integrated circuits, which was always in such high demand that prices kept all the peasants from being able to operate any.
Such powers should be reserved for those with superior power and ways of thinking anyway, don’t you agree?

53·2 days agoLiterally the point of AI is to get everyone to store everything in the cloud so they can do to all your data what Facebook did to your social profile (and worse)

5·3 days agoTrumps goal is revenge for forcing him to kill Epstein in order to get away with everything, which is why he does such dumb shit as “let covid run rampant” and “destroy all safety nets” and “rig elections with the help of oligarchs”
Fuck everything about this; strike while the iron is hot or be ruled by pedofascists forever. You won’t get another chance. You do not realize the danger we are all in.

0·4 days agoSlop is trained on the work of the people it is now able to drown out with cheap imitations. That is why it is controversial.
Imagine AIs start winning the gaming tournaments and humans no longer are even in the running for prize money or placement on leaderboards. Would that be fucked up?

30·5 days agoCramping AI into everything, including your “privacy” product, is enshittification.
It’s just not really in the same form as capturing market share and then paywalling your captive market to achieve rent seeking.
In this case you aren’t capturing rent you are capturing profiles, which in turn you will rent out to marketers.
Proton will betray everyone. I’m glad I stayed away.

Technology@lemmy.world•Behind the Scenes, Meta’s Board Is Battling With Mark Zuckerberg Over His Out-of-Control AI Spending: The directors have had enough.English
191·8 days agoThe real reason is because the data centers aren’t for AI. They’re for taking up all the components so you can’t compute independently anymore and you need to run “apps” from the ”cloud” so they can “monitor” your “behavior” for “tailored ads” and “terrorist threats” and cut you off completely if you ever retroactively violated their updated EULA that covers all the people they don’t like.
They are stealing computing from us and the business world is letting it happen in the name of cost savings.
I swear to god before I die I will see capitalism driven into the mud to drown

17·8 days agoIt only includes sites where the server-side language can be detected. That’s often easy with PHP because of URLs ending in
.phpand well-known software like Wordpress which identifies itself in ways that are easy for a crawler to detect. So there are possibly more PHP sites out there than we realize, because the ones which disguise their URLs are ambiguous
It counts sites, not traffic. There are a lot of Wordpress sites out there which get three visitors a month.
You shouldn’t be as concerned with popularity, and much more concerned with attack surface. Your argument certainly can’t be that there are thousands of idle servers out there that should no longer be maintained because no one reads the blog hosted on them?

9·11 days agoAI companies ruin the RAM and video card market, so no one runs 200GB models for free.
No, AI companies ruin the RAM, Storage, and video market so no one can compute independently, and they all have to stream cloud services which can be monitored by AI, gatekept without the possibility of piracy (or first sale doctorine), unhackable/unmodable, and rented forever.
This is way bigger than gaming. What happens when they can predict markets? What happens when they can move markets? When journalists get silenced, when inconvenient truths are hidden?
Why wouldn’t they when we are so dependent on it?

5·11 days agoIt’s funny that you think in 2028 Microsoft is going to let you install any OS you want on any hardware they sell.
Brother in 2028 the only hardware you will be able to buy will stream all your software from the cloud for a rental fee. They’re coming and taking away computing.

28·12 days agoNot enough people realize this. They think the component shortage is a side effect, but it’s to push you towards cloud services on underpowered devices that rely on it.
Imagine the censorship when every service is monitored and controlled by them. Imagine the market capture when they can see everyone’s financials and trade secrets. When they can cut off journalists and activists with one click.

535·13 days agoThe AI push is really about buying up all the compute components to make independent, individual ownership impractical.
Then we all have to buy walled garden dumb terminal tablets that rely on cloud services to function.
They can watch, censor, and block anything they want. And we pay them for the privilege.

Trump is in it this time to destroy the country that impeached him twice and made him kill is best friend and business associate to keep things quiet. He built the worlds biggest blackmail network and he loved underage pussy and now those things are gone, so he’s out to destroy the country that ruined it all for him to show history that he’s more big and powerful than any stupid America which was nothing more than a worthless house of cards, so much so that he took it down and made it a mess. Can you believe it folks? I mean it’s honestly pathetic, if you look around. All these people, afraid they’re going to lose their country, cheering for the guy doing it. Because, if he can’t have the America he wants, why should you? Why should anyone have America if it’s just going to do that to people who become powerful? What’s the point of it if everyone is subject to the same laws? That’s not why America was formed, folks.
