Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Discord is rewriting its entire desktop client in Rust with a native GPUI-based interface (dropping both Electron and React Native)English
6·14 hours agoI just finished setting up my matrix homeserver and got my friends to use Sable. So. Yeah, fuck discord and their AI “age estimation,” their promises of “we don’t store ids” before leaking tens of thousands of them, and their “our trusted partners are the best” and it’s literally Palantir in a trench coat.
Fuck all of that. AND they’re enshittifying with all the quests and ads. Discord has some real problems but violating everyone’s privacy is not the solution. Hire more people, actually investigate, and listen to the community. Don’t be a Roblox.

politics @lemmy.world•Calls to Replace Jeffries and Schumer Explode After Democratic Wins
8·21 hours agoYou do realize having leadership that “works across the aisle” is exactly why we had a focus on identity politics right? It’s was platitudes instead of policy, it was effective at sowing division so that democrats didn’t need to do anything and still take the same money from billionaires and PACs that republicans do. Jeffries and Schumer both take AIPAC, oil, and healthcare insurance lobbying money. They have no incentive to hold anyone to account and make things better for the people. If they did, they’d lose their funding.
You can’t work across the aisle with fascist capitalists. That’s how you get identity politics aimed at stalling and dividing people rather than delivering for them. It’s effective at taking the steam out of real, people first movements.
We have more in common than we don’t. Whether MAGA likes it or not, we’re going to give them healthcare, education, job protection, paid time off by law, and more.

politics @lemmy.world•Calls to Replace Jeffries and Schumer Explode After Democratic Wins
181·24 hours agoFind someone middle of the road.
Bro wants us to go halfway between doing something for the people and doing nothing. Or halfway between helping people and fascism if I’m not reading that charitably (“2 sides of politics.” Cause reality famously only has black and white issues.)

Like c’mon. Social and cultural issues like what? Money out of politics? Healthcare? Education? Public investment? Holding billionaires and the criminal administration accountable? Because that’s what we voted for. And all of those things make things more affordable. ESPECIALLY the accountability part. They’re the whole reason nothing is affordable. The working class needs protections against capitalist bullshit.

2·2 days agoI don’t disagree. We’ll have to feel pain before anyone changes. That’s how conservative, reactionary thinking works. Until gas in the US went people didn’t give a shit about their neighbors and fascism. Personal harm/gain move people more than empathy or anecdotes unfortunately. Good ole capitalism reinforcing selfishness and narcissim.

2·2 days agoIt’s a chicken and egg kind of problem. But ultimately, it’s where gamers go. Where we vote to put our dollars basically. If it’s GoG or some other platform that becomes open source or something that works to build a good product, that’s where publishers will eventually move to as well after the paying audience moves. But yeah, of course lots of big name studios will fight tooth and nail and won’t supply DRM free versions willingly.
Unless policy gets instituted to force them of course.

2·3 days agoNot entirely, but they’re focused on delivering DRM free copies for your purchases. So if they were to pivot and revoke your library, that part is impossible if you’ve downloaded your DRM free installation files.

282·3 days agoWhen Gabe passes one day and the next owner is some business dimwit and makes steam really win capitalism, pretty sure we’ll jump to GoG. That’s my headcanon at least. Because that’s what always happens to private companies when the person who cares about the thing no longer leads the company.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Will Turn Off Search for Schools That Reject A.IEnglish
3·3 days agoBlock google, use duckduckgo.
Even better, the computer science and/or IT portions of school should have students learn how to set up, configure, and maintain their own instances of SearXNG that the school could use locally on their intranet.
Education, exposing kids to open source alternatives, and the school gets their own, and better, search aggregator that strips AI and ads. Sounds like a win-win-win to me.

11·6 days agoUnfortunately, even when they, as a group, decide to cause harm and suffering. Cheaper to pay legal fees for death and dismemberment than pay for recalls.
https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2008/oct/17/pinto-memo-its-cheaper-let-them-burn/
Cheaper to pay for less/worse healthcare which leads to more death and bankruptcy…
Cheaper to eliminate roles and replace them with contract positions which don’t have benefits leading to the same as above…
Almost like they can’t be held accountable.
And then if it’s attempted, they can just defer the judgements which harms the victims more…

Technology@lemmy.world•Alphabet shares record their worst day ever, shedding $500 billion in valueEnglish
112·8 days agoNever said it wasn’t lol. But the way that narcissitic capitalists are rewarded by capitalism is why the implementation is the issue.
The only value being provided are to the billionaires who continue to get more wealthy to a point in which they literally control politics without being elected.
And just like the 08 recession they’re going to try their damndest for the only form of socialism they support: corporate socialism. Privatize the gains, and in this case, socialize the losses. They’re going to seek bailouts so that when their circular financing crumbles they drift down on golden parachutes while our tax dollars fund them, the burning of our atmosphere, the contamination of our air, our drinking water, and our very minds as their sycophancy psychosis machines run rampant and delude people into entirely false realities.
Motherfuckers socialized their own sycophancy, they insulated themselves with greedy yes men who just want their money. They then built machines that do the same to us, isolating us and agreeing with every idea we have.

30·8 days agoBut it’s not a bubble, right?

Better yet, this.
Have Congress pen a law that says “the supreme court can’t constitutionally overturn this.” When they challenge it, they’d have to cite where in the constitution they are provided such power. And that doesn’t exist. Judicial supremacy is removed.
