A big org, all at once, will almost always fail.
Those IT departments aren’t scoped to change the world all at once, and, on the receiving end, government workers generally aren’t a class of people who respond well to large changes.

The format isn’t the problem; the rules for rendering content outside the PDF are more suggestions.
And honestly, even if the rules were adhered to, there’s no way in F that Microsoft would comply just for this very reason

I get why the guy on the left has a death stare; the guy on the right looks like he wants to kill.

We’re just going to be sitting the middle of supply chain hacks until the cows come home. All that porting bullshit to rust might end up being the final answer.

I mean, have you seen the decisions they were making without it? Probably 50:50 on C-staff
closer to the work, you have to trust the workers decisions quite a bit more.

tween that and PHP CVE, everyone is on fire ATM

AI companies ruin the RAM and video card market, so no one runs 200GB models for free.
This ruins the new-game market on PC and consoles.
AI allows people to spin copies of games
Next up,
All consoles fail
All console makers stop letting people have binaries
Gaming as a service AGAIN

but a lot of the studios MS bought turned into dud factories.

You can host a small LLM model with a phone, or a whisper or a TTS, maybe some light diffusion.
You cannot do tool use, reasonable coding, get non-hallucination answers on even moderate questions. That stuff starts to get viable around 24G and really needs closer to 200G to be able to do most of that they’re doing.
the reason they bought up all the ram is to keep someone from buying 200G of vram and diying cards putting them out of business.

Big Tech nor Big Media.
But all the people are only on big tech.

You need 200GB of video memory :)
Honestly, I have a little tin-foil-hat theory that the used their infine supply of venture to fuck the memory market to make sure people couldn’t run giant chinese models on solar and eat their lunch.

Ohh fear not! Hardware didn’t plateau. Our current architectural needs plateaued. We’re still doing everything on 2d layers layers in a way that makes things organized. I’m sure they’ll shove AI in there and the next gen stuff will be unsupportable chaotic 3D tetris stuff and the memory/bus sizes will be old hat.

They’ve been the pack leader in the tech sector for decades.
So what did they do that was crazy long bad bet .com? Them existing in the .com days leaves nothing to the discussion at hand.
Amazon was at least standing up storefronts and cloud at that point.
The MAG7 have been outperforming the rest of the market since COVID, often by 5+%
What does this have to do with Tech bubble vs AI bubble? Are you interested in being on topic or just arguing?

I’d argue that Microsoft really didn’t do anything .com-ish. Amazon would have been a better choice for your argument.
And noone’s arguing that no companies flourished during those years. Just that a fuckton of them drug the market back to hell with their overpriced evaluations. (people laying fiber and buying 1.2M sock puppet ads in the super bowl)

So did .com in the early 00’s and houses in the late 00’s

To an extent. Perf is often as much about architecture as it is about code. That guy who created Adobe alternatives- all those apps are dog slow; they have to do low-quality preview renders. That’s something Adobe probably spent a few lifetimes siphoning out every last watt of power from, and it’s the reason they didn’t want to move to Linux. The app is still serviceable, but it has to degrade active quality to work at a reasonable pace. To fix that in Rust is going to be an enormous ask. There needs to be hackery and jiggery-pokery, the kind of things that aren’t documented well in training.
Maybe he can go back and have it try to figure out what Adobe is going or brainstorm ways to do it at full quality. Maybe someone will have to dive into the code, get familiar with it (hoping it’s not too confusing), and either fix the architecture, fuck with the security to let it use more base system calls, or maybe just tell another Claude session how to make it more performant.

TBH, we’re going to see a lot of this shit. Documented exploits, documented hardware, documented OS, The current gen of AI tooling is pretty good at retrying tons of shit until it gets SOMETHING working. What runs will probably not be performant, and since no one wrote it or understands it, they won’t have any clue how to make it run better and that’s something that the current tooling is NOT good at.

Perhaps that’s how the fridge company keeps you paying for the service. Allowing you to set temps, time defrost is all operational. You can do power saving and make sure that defrosts only happen during the store’s downtime. You could also isolate a screwed up unit, have the store unstock it and shut it down until maintenance can come out to repair it.
Scottland, UK, Australia, New Zealand… It’s such a well distributed term
