I plead terrible memory and accept this may be more accurate
In the fediverse since 2017. I mostly talk sports. If something on the internet doesn’t spark joy, mute it.
Do not yell at me simply because I am in front of you and the people responsible for the problems are not. It is extremely unpleasant.

It’s a reasonable take, I swear! Most fedi platforms seem to have an English-speaking population that is ~50% Germans speaking English, ~25% the UK and the rest is a smattering of other English speakers. Lemmy, in my experience, is the odd one out with regards to US defaultism.

Fedi: look it’s not that complicated, you just need to understand how decentralization can improve stability and openness by allowing users to…

As I remember it (and I have a terrible memory), the fedi beans memes started pretty early on, like 2018, and came from a place of “we don’t get trending memes from other platforms so let’s start our own.” I think it came to lemmy from other fedi platforms pretty early on, and gets deployed periodically as a kind of palate cleanser. I blame the Brits, but I don’t have evidence to support that.
Sounds like a job for funkwhale

I think probably the most disorienting thing for new users is that you have joined a lemmy instance, lemmy.world, that is federated with a bunch of other social networks. Some of them, like mine (feddit.online) are very similar to yours, and some of them (like pixelfed.social or bookwyrm.social) are very different from what you are used to. Each instance has its own software and distinct culture, which can lead to unexpected interactions, but you should be fine as long as you’re actively kind and remember there is (probably) another human on the other end. The best explainer I know of is https://fedi.tips/ though it is tailored to mastodon users (which is federated with us and you’ll see them around, but have much more Twitter-like software that they’re using).

It took me a while to get a sense for what you meant, but I think the answer is yes? If insurance companies saw there was a new risk associated with driving, a new .1% chance you might get in an accident requiring the insurance company to pay out $10 trillion, I think you would see insurance companies raise premiums to offset the new $100 billion liability, and I think it would not only be paid by the owners of the new wildly expensive car, since you have to offset the chance that I am at fault for its destruction as well. I do however wonder how you could construct a $1 trillion car and have it be completely totaled by a $5000 car in an accident – wouldn’t at least a few billion go to reinforcing the chassis?

Sorry to do this to you twice, but you can embed the gif directly in the comments using markdown like this:
Which then renders like this

You’re thinking of libel. Liable means legally responsible. If you win your libel case, the defendant will be liable for the damages.
My friends do this. It’s nice because I can have friends over while also never answering when someone knocks or rings the doorbell.

In meteorology, clouds are also physical objects with a size and a weight and a limited lifespan that are subject to the vagaries of nature and time? It seems like a fine metaphor?

I do. Consolidating my phone and tablet into a single device would be very convenient. Adding support for an external monitor, keyboard and mouse to replace my laptop would be even better. I didn’t buy a Duo not because I don’t want the product, but because I know they won’t work well for another few iterations (at least).

Nope
So Apple quietly fixed a nasty vulnerability reachable over the air in iOS 26.5, yet they made no mention of it in the security bulletin.
Ну-ка, я все таки хочу знать: чё?
