Also, I refuse to use Donald’s last name out of hatred for the man and his brand, FYI.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's up with the "prepare for a 3 to 10 day outage"?
61·9 hours agoYep.
I’m not a prepper but I have an emergency water supply that, under the worst circumstances, could last me a month and a half. It’s really nice when the water’s out for whatever reason to have zero disruption.
Same with food, roughly 1.5 months worth.
I agree that when it comes to the essentials to live, it’s just a good idea to have reserves.
Sure!

Going to make a video of it for my YT channel this week too.
I did a search for one and the first article that came up was from HowToGeek about all the projects one can do with these devices. Thanks for the neat suggestion!
CYD ESP32
Oh… COOL.
Nothing to do with anything really, but did you know that the existence of locks goes back to ancient times and they used to be made of wood?
God I love Lemmy nerds.
Not even kidding. Thank you for the extra info.
Sounds like a great feature for lengthening battery life. (If I understand this correctly.)

3·2 days agoNo, I think someone obtained one of their employees’ credentials via social engineering. It’s not that hard to do, you just call someone and tell them you’re from IT and their password, or security key, or passkey or whatever is expiring and pretend to set them up with a new one or convince them to let you remote into their PC to make some kind of security update.
That’s usually how it happens.

In investing gains and losses are only realized when you sell a security, and over time, just buying and holding has been all the strategy most people have needed thanks to the market’s consistent growth.
The downside is that anyone invested in a 401k probably has shares in a mutual fund that will be negatively impacted when the AI Bubble pops. It will be interesting to see what happens in the short-term, though, especially if (and almost certainly when) Donald loses total congressional control.

Zero interest in using a product voluntarily that’s clearly not being tested adequately. I get enough of that having to use MS Teams at work, which has really just become whatever buggy crap MS’ vibe coders feel like vomiting into production in a given day.

1·2 days agomost people will not try to do anything blatantly illegal in plain view
And, as Microsoft’s guy said last year, these motherfuckers think they have “social consent” (God I fucking hate that term) to do anything that isn’t explicitly illegal under the letter of the law.

Not a great start.
my expectancy of safety from any crypto exchange point is zero
Honestly, I’m skeptical of using dedicated crypto exchanges too. I have somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of my portfolio in crypto, but through a regular brokerages that deal in standard securities like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. If I had all of my wealth in it, I’d have it all stored in a cold wallet on external media, but even that isn’t 100% foolproof.
There have been several incidents with crypto exchanges, yes. That said, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of major corporations in the US have had significant publicly infamous security breaches within the last decade, so it seems illogical to pretend as if security breaches are somehow unique to the crypto industry.
People who use crypto are not insane.

You may not like the product but these people still have a reasonable expectation of security, and they should.
I don’t care for AI girlfriends, but when they convince a teen to off themselves I still acknowledge that the teen is, objectively, a victim even though the product is unregulated.

This was likely an instance of social engineering within Binance and nothing to do with the underlying securities, folks.
Probably undiagnosed mental illness. I spent 30+ years as a round peg trying to fit in a square hole, until I realized one day that the way I like to be is fine and I should enjoy an existence that fits me.

Thank you for that information.
