  • You sound extremely lucky/privledged.

Most people don’t have people around them like that. The vast majority of people out there are low level addicts for algorithms. Nobody in my family can control themselves and I grew up with two parents who were crackheads for cable news TV feeding them endless streams of nonsense. My folks were basically overgrown toddlers most of my life and everything made them throw a tantrum. And my entire town I grew up in was full of people like that.

I think the error you are making is you assume other folks have the circumstances around them that they can exercise control and discipline over their lives… a lot of folks don’t. Esp if they never had examples in live to teach them those things, or had higher education or income levels. Poverty and low income legit has different wiring in the brain and people in that lifestyle typically don’t develop their executive control. The fact I did, made me more or less a freak-show anomaly among my family and friends growing up.

  • It’s nostalgia.

People were just as shitty in 2007 as they are today. They just didn’t have FB accounts to publicize it to the world and they didn’t use social media to make money back then.

People don’t remember the past correctly, they only remember it selectively, and they super impose modern standards of living onto it. Like if people from 2025 had to go back to 1955 and live the way 1955 people lived, they’d be traumatized, because they have no idea how polluted, loud, and unclean awful life in 1955 was. They just think ‘cheap cost of living!’

  • so why do you care if other people use it? it saves them time and they have the money to burn.

clearing six figures for a couple isn’t very much in 2026 dude. you’re not even in the top quartile of incomes. you only make more more than like 70% of americans. The people I am talking about are make 100K by themselves at like the age of 25, and are making 300-400K as couples in their 30s/40s. I clean 150K by myself and I am poor compared to most folks in my city.

you can be angry about it all you want but other people have the money to ‘waste’. for those people time is the most limited resource and they would rather not spend 10 hours a week shopping and cooking.

  • if you need to worry about that kind of money you are too poor to use these services. That’s fine, your not the target demo.

The people using them typically make over 100K+ a year and for them time is money. They don’t shop in stores, they don’t cook, and they don’t do take-out either. They dine-in or do delivery. For every meal.

For people making 10K a month, spending 2K a month on delivery food is 20% of their income. It’s entirely affordable. They are also spending 4-5K on rent/mortgage. A lot of them are young people making 100K and living with 3 roommates so they have like 8K+ in disposable income.

I spend maybe $100 month on delivery, during the pandemic it was closer to $300 because I dind’t have the option of dining out anywhere.

You can find it outrageous all you want, doesn’t mean it isn’t a growth industry. I don’t buy first class plane tickets or stay in $1000/night hotels, but those markets are also booming.

  • because the demand for these services is growing rapidly.

where i live tons of people basically live off doordash and other delivery services. my own neighbors order it 1-2 times a day. on my block of maybe 50+ apartments, there are deliveries from drivers basically every 20m, during dinner/lunch hours often there are multiple drivers dropping off at the same time.

many folks I have met are spending well over $1000+ per month on these services.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use these services at least a few times a month. millions and millions of people are using them and many of those people are totally addicted.

I ordered it last night because I had to work OT and didn’t get home until 7:30pm, and I was starving. and for $25 bucks I got two meals worth of delicious hot food at my door in 20m.

  • welcome to reddit!

my favorite ban on reddit was when I made a joke about IG popularity of Santorini and the mod banned me because they had just gone there and felt insulted, and straight up admitted it in DM. Then reported me to admin for ‘harassing’ them when I said ‘really dude?’ and that was my second IP ban.

    everything is feelings in 2026.

  • Men who get legit raped don’t get outrage and empathy, they get a high five or called a ‘pussy’ for not enjoying it. A woman gets allegedly raped and people want to roll heads and commit murder. The blood-thirst for Cornell case is insane… even though the real world evidence points to it being another false accusation… which is precisely why it was never prosecuted…

Same with other forms of sexual assault/harassment. Men are expected to just enjoy it and ‘you’re so lucky’ is what folks will say.

this a great analysis. Also why our culture is so insane right now. People increasingly live in bubbles of gender bias and they bias each other into horrible double standards. The people who scream the most about ‘rape culture’ are the ones most likely to have committed sexual assault on men or other women, IME.

And any male support group is viewed as inherently anti-woman. Which is insane.
