481·9 days agoI’m studying his body. I’ve never studied the body of a man before. It’s not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But I looked at his ass and then I looked at his legs. I said, “His ass—shit—it’s like, it’s like a pile of muscle.” Then I looked at his legs, and I said, “Man, his feet are big.” Then I looked at his shoulders, and I tapped him on the shoulder, and it actually hurt my hand. It was like a piece of steel.

Technology@lemmy.world•Man Creates DIY Flock-Style Cameras That Only Scan Police Plates And For Some Reason The Cops Are Annoyed By ThisEnglish
136·14 days agoSistilli released a couple of YouTube videos showing his homemade ALPR to track police cars. It wasn’t actually very effective. It only correctly identified two out of seven cruisers that passed his location during the hour he tested it, and it did not capture the license plates of either one, which is about as reliable as a real Flock camera. Still, that was enough for several Peel Regional Police officers to pay Sistilli a visit about his cop-detecting ALPR, even though he’d done nothing wrong.

Technology@lemmy.world•Shut up and take our money: Amazon plows $1B+ into quashing datacenter dissentEnglish
11·23 days agoAlright… I wasted a half an hour of my life, so no one else needs to. The maker of the video didn’t even bother with a description.
The title doesn’t say how they are doing this (what causes the effect and what the effect—if any—does to those affected by the “acoustic weapon”) nor who/what it effects: “Datacenters Behaving Like Acoustic Weapons - Benn Jordan”
My synopsis for you: The thesis of the video is that data centers produce infrasound (low-frequency noise) that is harmful to people who live nearby. The video shows the noise being recorded to prove it is happening.
I’m not at expert in this, so I can’t tell whether the level recorded has any effects for people living nearby as is claimed. I suppose if you need a reason to watch it, you could see for yourself if the argument and evidence seems convincing, or if you can find a flaw in it better than I can.

0·26 days agoYeah, if data centers used solar power, batteries, and cooling that doesn’t waste water, I think communities wouldn’t mind (as much).
