PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Kidnapped Teenager Rescued After Reaching Out For Help In Among Us - The 17-year-old victim was rescued after contacting a player they met in Among Us, over 500 days after they were kidnappedEnglish
61·2 days agoThis is essentially how the Turpin family was discovered in 2018. One of the girls made friends online (on YouTube singing at first, I think) and it led to her eventually escaping and getting to a cop.
That was in Perris, California; north of San Diego.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•A random EA employee [Producer Jim Vessella]stumbled on "nearly 20,000" classic game assets in a storage room, then a producer spent 2 years working with modders on 7 new remasters that just hit SteamEnglish
61·2 days agoTo add onto this… there were only six artists on it.
Soundgarden, Paw, Hammerbox, Therapy?, Monster Magnet, and Swervedriver
I can’t believe they’re selling it like a relicensed soundtrack was actually a big deal. EA just didn’t want to do it. So they waited thirty years and are now complaining that it was hard.
It’s not like the more famous licensing struggles with older artists (The Wonder Years was famously hard to reproduce) over the years. They still had some trouble because apparently they had to track down everyone due to their own negligence.
Successfully pulling this off would require connecting with the music label and every band member who controlled a ‘side’ of the 14 tracks. By the summer of 2026, we had agreements in place with 6 of the 7 bands (including the most prominent band on the list), but after months of searching we still could not find one of the members for a specific band," Vessella explains.
Oh fucking boo hoo.
I’m not sure where they’re getting “7 bands” though because they list 6 themselves (quoted from the article below). Discogs also only lists six.
Soundgarden, Paw, Hammerbox, Monster Magnet, Therapy?, and Swervedriver

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Valve "played capitalism so well they broke it" and now Steam can never be replaced, former Epic dev says: "I don't think this is fixable"English
70·5 days agoSeriously!!
The best part to me is that this is a former “principal animation engineer,” and they still have no self-awareness about why Epic sucks.
It reminds me of an old saying that really good people hire really good people… but mediocre people often hire those that are worse than them to look better. That is, “A” people hire “A” people, but “B” people hire “C” people, and the team (or company) declines.
Essays like this make me wonder if Epic has hired many good people over the years.
It’s not a good sign that the cult of entitlement at Epic is so strong, even their most experienced former technical staff still write entitled essays after they leave. And they post them on X.
You really can’t see any connections between a teen using Among Us to find help, and a teen using YouTube to find help?
They “just” went through a window to find help? What’s your point here?
I just wondered why someone would be this pedantic about kidnapping awareness. Like, why?
So I asked, and you downvoted. Smart!
