Well California is the entire planet as we all well know, so I guess it’s conversation over then.

I think we should have four clock switches per year.
In northern Europe an hour isn’t enough to make a difference regarding daylight, the winter days get really short up here. Initially it’s okay but then as the winter drags on you start to find that it’s still dark in the mornings again so really we should have the clocks move forwards and back every three months.
Obviously that would be kind of unnecessary in the US outside of the Alaska.
But let’s have spring forward every year, let’s make it real confusing. In 6 years 9am will be in the middle of the afternoon.
It’s got nothing to do with farmers. So whether or not farmers find daylight savings useful (I think the split is roughly 50/50) is irrelevant.
It’s nothing to do with farmers. I don’t know where people got that idea.
Farmers get up when it’s daylight and you can see, what time it is isn’t relevant. It’s not like the animals know what daylight saving is so if they don’t get fed when they expect it, they’ll kick up a fuss.
During the second World War we had double save lights savings. So it went 12 am. 1am. 2am. 12am

It depends on how sharply to pronounce the C

3·3 days agoI don’t think long term any of the AI companies are going to survive. The more the costs go up the more incentivized someone is to come up with a more efficient model that doesn’t require the Earth into a planet-sized data center. Obviously the likes have open AI don’t want that because then they’d lose control.

9·3 days agoThe problem is that for less than a year’s subscription I can just buy my own equipment. So yeah it would be more sensible to centralise everything, but as you say the prices are too high.
I keep saying this, AI is not commercially viable yet, it should still be in the lab and they shouldn’t be trying to sell it as a product. Maybe in a few years they’ll be able to distill that down to something that will run on a reasonable amount of hardware and subscription prices can become sensible. There’s no way in hell I’m giving them $200 a month to automate something that I do actually know how to do myself. You can still run out of tokens despite giving them $2,400 a year, so where’s my incentive to not just go and buy a Mac mini?

6·3 days agoAlright let’s centralize all of the AI into one big data center, the cheapest place to put that would be in China so let’s build it there, no need for there to be lots of different companies either, nationalised all of their assets.
Are you happy now Sam?
Don’t put it in there then.

6·3 days agoI and I guess itch.io as well but that’s mostly because of how easy it is to get a game on the platform so it’s really good for small games and demos.

111·4 days agoWell that’s because pretty much all of the competition are terrible.
There hasn’t really been much innovation in digital market space since the concept arose. Valve started it and a few other companies over the years of tried, including Microsoft and all have failed.
I think valve succeeded because they weren’t trying to make a digital market place, it started out as just a distribution platform so not every decision was about how to make the most money out of the customer. You make the money on the games, not the platform and then you build up from there.

29·4 days agoSo they want me to use an AI to do my job. But at the same time they haven’t fired me so presumably they understand that the AI can’t be used exclusively to do the job. So doesn’t that mean that they accept that I have better judgment than an AI and therefore my decision not to use said AI shouldn’t be a problem for them.
I would love to see them actually try articulate exactly why the above is not true in an employment tribunal.

I’m never going to buy an expensive internet package, a badly designed car, or go into space, that’ll show him.
