politics @lemmy.world•I’m a professor in Alabama. We’ve been banned from saying “Gulf of Mexico.” No, seriously!
27·16 hours agoI’m not a lawyer. I’m 99.99% sure that if the institution is state run (like a university of Alabama situation), then they open themselves to civil rights litigation if they were to fire you for this.

7·22 hours agoIt’s the tribunal were all waiting for. Not impeachment.
Impeachment doesn’t send him to prison. A tribunal will.

3·3 days agoYeah. They’re the red side of the coin to Maine. Same attitude but Maine wants their family. They would cede to keep the family stable.
Like if I am being ignorant and going off stereotypes: I’d bet money that there is a higher rate of alcoholism among married/divorced men in Montana than in Maine. The Montana man would keep drinking because he’d refuse to see himself as the problem. Maine man would swallow the ego if it meant saving the family. On average.
I say Maine but really, think all of New England except big cities where it’s quite a bit more liberal overall. Northern New England especially though.

Spoiler: it will be a total joke.

6·3 days agoNo that’s what I am saying. Montanians are more likely to choose their individualism over the complete family photo. That’s where their philosophy falls apart.

politics @lemmy.world•Montana Voters Overwhelmingly Pass Ballot Initiative to Ban Corporate Cash From Political Campaigns
18·3 days agoYeah I respect the ethos in a lot of ways. Their philosophy only really fails when like… They disagree on stuff.
“I don’t give a fuck where your kids get educated. Just don’t tell me where to educate mine.” Is fine until “well they need to be being taught ‘x y and z.’” And you’re met with “LIKE HELL THEY DO, ASSHOLE, GET OFF MY LAWN.” because they can’t agree on x y and z.
Or
“We don’t do drugs in this house. And if my kids touch the stuff, they’re out on their own. But, why should johnny law have a say what’s in my greenhouse?”
Or
“I am fiercly pro life. But, I don’t think anyone outside this house should be telling my daughter whether or not she has access to an abortion. She’s just disowned if she ever chooses to access one.”
Where like, their rugged individualism is so fierce they’ll happily hurt people close to them to maintain their version of what’s right. Tough to respect that.

391·3 days agoA typical Montanian view is something like
“The state shouldn’t compel the church to marry the gays. They’re a church. They should decide who they marry. But, they should be allowed a civil union. They’re just not invited to my property.”

I need people to be reminded that Jon Ossoff opposed taxing the wealthy as recently as like 2022.
He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing as far as I’m concerned. He’s another Jefferies. Y’all remember when Jefferies pooped his pants during a 24 hr filibuster?
