It’s like looking through the barricaded doors of the mall and seeing the zombies of your old loved ones shambling around. It’s not them. They’re dead. Turn away, there’s nothing but heartbreak for you here.

You’re not wrong but…
A whole x86 SoC for reading a dial and controlling some RGB LEDs and a dot matrix display is ridiculous. Microcontrollers are IFAIK still as cheap as ever.

YA THINK??

x86 is a dead-end architecture. It can be emulated in software by cheaper, lower-power architectures and live on as a wart.

have you ever wondered why no one can provide the services Valve does for cheaper than Valve does? Is it because of their famously anticompetitive practices, their notorious lobbying and threats to politicians, their strong-arm manipulation of vendors against each other? Perhaps they have some other method of defeating market forces?

“Get nothing out of it?” Go ahead and spin up a store front that processes payments with every major channel, then come back to me in a decade when you’ve got that up and I’ll give you your next task.
Could just as easily argue it’s Valve who isn’t getting anything for your ten shovelware asset flip titles getting no sales, but they still have to pay for your overhead.
Animals don’t suffer when we are cruel and violent to them. They don’t have the capacity, they’re just robots.
Sorry… sorry. We’re all a little edgy over this.
