Technology@lemmy.world•Self-hosting Doesn't Actually Save You Money, And The People Who Promise It Does Are Setting Beginners Up To QuitEnglish
3·16 days agoWhoever thinks self-hosting is about saving money has grossly misunderstood technology…and people, for that matter.

Technology@lemmy.world•Peppermint OS Expands Beyond Debian with Void Linux-Based PepVoidEnglish
1·26 days agoYou said it: That’s enough for you to reject the project, which is an understandable and respectable point of view. However: you talked about endorsement by the Devuan team, which is a bit of a stretch tbh, let alone stating that the project is run by fascists, which, again, IMHO doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

Technology@lemmy.world•Peppermint OS Expands Beyond Debian with Void Linux-Based PepVoidEnglish
2·26 days agoA short research was enough to find out way too much about that guy. He even has his own non-woke fork (a phrase I find pretty hilarious) of Devuan, but Devuan’s team ‘embracing’ him or his ideas is nowhere to be seen, so…sauce ?

Technology@lemmy.world•No human required: Austria's plan for AI-only government decisions// A sweeping change to Austria's administrative law would let authorities issue binding decisions using AI systems with no humanEnglish
21·1 month agoMost Austrians (especially bureaucrats) already ‘think’ and act as machines anyway, which might also explain why their government is the first to come up with this absolutely idiotic idea.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI's Altman Says the Use of 'AI' is 'Non-Negotiable'English
1·2 months agoAll of the Broligarchs (Zuck, Huang, Thiel, ‘The Mummy’ Ellison) are annoying and dangerous, but Altman sure has the most punchable face of all, for whatever reason.

Could we like…stop pretending that this wasn’t the plan all along?
The AS cartel isn’t investing what are already trillions of dollars in that technology because they want humanity to prosper, or because they hope commoners will pay a miserly monthly subscription. They are doing it because they know that middle managers will use it to get rid of you. If that’s not possible or feasible, then at least squeeze you out. That requires invasive monitoring. I mean, obviously, right ?
