No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there anyway to use LLMs without supporting the billionaires/data centers but without also entirely upgrading your computer?
12·3 days agoI believe there are options to host open models on hardware you don’t own without having to give money to the “evil” data centers. Getting away from data centers entirely is impossible as that is how the internet has worked for a very long time now.

16·12 days agoI know multiple people below you said Immich already but to give more details: it absolutely is one of the most well run and stable self hosted apps I own. Extremely reliable and works exactly as I need it. It was one of the first FOSS applications I supported monetarily because I believed in it so much.

94·25 days agoMan getting people to listen to me when I essentially talk about the same thing you brought up is impossible. It is great for these kinds of things but I just get shouted down by all of the “AI bad no matter what” people.

710·27 days ago“Degrades quality” assumes developers are already writing good code to start. Unfortunately that just isn’t true. For people who know what they are doing and can properly guide it, it absolutely speeds up the menial tasks that plague software engineering. I’m not even a fan of the direction AI is going yet I absolutely see the value here.
For the AI haters, we really need to attack it from a better angle than “it doesn’t work” because it absolutely does.
Josh Turek really isn’t all that good of a person either. He was absolutely fine throwing trans people under the bus.
