  • Yeah if you look at 2000 in particular Bush “won” by .01%.

If you are familiar with that election that is when Al Gore won the popular vote in the U.S., a recall was called in Florida twice and conspiracies surround how Bush’s own brother was the Governir of Florida.

Basically first count said Bush won by 1784 votes ~.009%. That triggered and automatic recount by the machines. Which came back saying he actually only won by 327 votes, meaning the room for error was wider than the election. His brother helped stall a manual recount, they sent it to the Supreme Court and the U.S. supreme court decided it didn’t matter because hand counting them would take time and awarded all 25 elector votes to Bush, making him President of an election he had not one neither the population, nor possibly the electors… But we’ll never know.

  • Florida has gone to the right in the last 10 years but before that they always swung back and forth.

Like if you look at who Florida voted for, it was pretty much who won president except the Trump 2020 election.

Election Year Winning Candidate Party Margin of Victory

    1960 John F. Kennedy D -0.2%

    1964 Lyndon B. Johnson D +27.0%

    1968 Richard Nixon R +5.0%

    1972 Richard Nixon R +27.0%

    1976 Jimmy Carter D +1.9%

    1980 Ronald Reagan R +10.0%

    1984 Ronald Reagan R +20.0%

    1988 George H.W. Bush R +10.0%

    1992 Bill Clinton D +2.0%

    1996 Bill Clinton D +5.0%

    2000 George W. Bush R +0.01%

    2004 George W. Bush R +5.0%

    2008 Barack Obama D +2.8%

    2012 Barack Obama D +0.9%

  • This is actually do to government policies being put in place in the U.K., Australia and such. In those countries if a user has a child account (under 13 years old) certain safety features are turned on by default now in those countries, and the parent can choose to turn them off. If your account is over 18 years old, has a credit card attached to it, or I think there is a couple other ways it will automatically assume you are over 18 and you don’t have to prove it (otherwise you would have to scan your ID to get your Apple account to have you listed as an adult). In the U.S. you don’t have to prove it, and it is opt in by the users.

So it’s a catch 22, I think it should be opt in every where, but no one is winning a political campaign on saying 12 year olds should be able to send or receive nudes without their parents knowinh about it.

  • For part 2, they would put a mole in the group, and create a situation where someone acts like they get hurt and shoot a blank or a 22 at a group of police with riot gear on. Then smear them as armed terrorists across all media use facial recognition and security around town to collect plates, track down their locations and arrest them individually.

If enough people do it, it would work still, but hundreds of people would go to jail first.

I imagine most people would turn on the protesters first though. As many companies would not want to be seen as supporting armed terrorists so they would actively fire people who get named or post on social media about supporting them.

  • I think the real answer is that anyone who cares about the climate already isn’t voting for Republicans. That vote is already secured, so why waste resources saying something that may just piss people off by not calling for extreme enough changes or whatever else. 0% of the people who voted for Trump in 2024 give a fuck about the environment. Those are the people they are trying to convince to not vote for a Republican again, even if it’s just to get them to not vote because they sow doubt about how he’s starting wars/raising costs and whatever else they think Republicans would care about.

  • The other interesting part to me is that most iPhone users have gotten used to using faceid. I know not everyone likes using it but it is the standard use for iPhone users. The Duo doesn’t have face ID, and switches you back to having to use touch ID on a side button like on an iPad. (I assume because they couldn’t figure out a standardized position that would work well when you are rotating/folding/unfolding whatever to that could consistently work well.
