A while ago I did the math on this:
I think someone pulled those numbers out of a dark orifice. 74 million bananas seems laughably low. A quick research yielded about 9*10^11 (nine hundred billion) bananas being consumed world wide per year. I got that number by dividing the 109 million tons of bananas that were consumed world wide in 2022[1] with the 120g average weight of a banana[2].
I don’t think it’s possible to get reliable numbers for monkeys consumed as bush meat. However, in 2012 there was an estimate of 3000 gorillas being killed as food each year in Cameroon alone[3]. So it’s probably safe to assume that the number for monkeys is much higher.

A hundred bananas a year a person on the other hand seems a bit high. Then I looked at the source you provided and holy fuck, some countries have 100+ kg per capita of consumption‽
I guess since Indiana Jones took all those idols the monkey eating has been down.
To be fair, eating monkeys is how you get ebola. Or something.
This, however, is neither a banana nor a monkey.
(It is an image transmitted over the Internet!1!)
haha oh man I’m totally going to hell for this!!!
Me on my deathbed having to eat 6 monkeys in a row but then realizing they meant the whole world over a year, not a person over a lifetime
monkeys georg.
