I average about 7 yrs between phones. But that’s mostly due to software needing more ram or storage than I’ve got available and finally giving up.

A lot of people/companies that use it do it not to directly make money, but for productivity gains and automation that saves time or money or finding issues they didn’t know they had before other people do.
It’s like saying “what if there was no profit from using this chainsaw over a two person bow saw to cut down a tree.” I am not directly profiting off of the chainsaw, but it saves me paying a person and allows me to be more efficient.
The only people “making money” from AI are the companies hosting it, and there are plenty of local models you can run instead, they just might not be as good/scaleable yet.

No, I am across the pond.

Huh, worked here, no paywall or popup. Didn’t even need reader mode.

What was wrong with just asking a person for what I want? No one asked for more layers of BS and dependency on the internet being functional and a remote service and layers of abstraction and power use and “the system is down” problems. Just give me my damn coffee so I can leave caffeinated.

I lived in a city with an air force base for a while. People had bumper stickers pointing out that they “Love Jet Noise” and that it is the sound of freedom.

“Might” == “Have been for some time, just that we’re now getting to the obvious point”

At this point, I think they believe it’s a good indicator of potential. A way of saying just how awesome and magical and powerful the AI is.
Otherwise the “AI went off the rails and breached X companies servers” would also have been met with contempt and negatively impacted them.

AI or the climate crisis? They’re basically related at this point. But the real answer is “both”. The time to stand up to both was a while ago. Really at least 50+yrs ago for climate change.

As someone who deals with IT and cybersecurity (and traffic) as part of my daily job, I will happily sit in traffic to actually own and have control over my vehicle.

Insurance companies aren’t able to fix the knowledge reduction, critical thinking skills, job losses, etc.

I am both young enough to know the current batch of old horrible people will die, but old enough to see the new breed of horrible people coming in to take their place.
Don’t stop trying to make the world a better place, make your voice heard. Vote, protest, rally, and push for what you believe in.

Why would two people as high ranking in their respective “companies” need to talk to discuss something as technical as avoiding LEO collisions? Like how much does either really know about their current constellation configuration? Those are operational level concerns, not CEO/Country Leader level conversations.

I have had to purchase or aid in purchasing laptops for my family and extended family (being the tech go to) for years. For at least the last 15, even entry level laptops have had touchscreens. I feel like they throw it in as a cheap-ish “feature” to make it seem more premium.

I definitely am a fan of NOT having a touchscreen. It was one of the pluses of the Macs, IMHO. When my parents or kids accidentally tap the screen pointing something on their touchscreen ThinkPad, it tends to screw things up and cause me to have to fix things for them.
I am also really worried they’re going to start making things “touch friendly” now… And we’re going to end up with the MacOS equivalent of Windows 8.

You’re right, but no one’s going to run those servers forever. If Nintendo goes under, all that’s for naught. If they decide the Wii or 3DS is no longer supported, we’re all SOL. Meanwhile, Cartridges still work. Games that don’t need to trigger a license check and have everything they need on the disc, will continue to work forever. That is the future we all want.

I got a physical copy of Skyrim at launch. Plunked it in my PC and the first thing I had to do was sign up for Steam, attach it there and download the game. I didn’t have a Steam account at that point… not sure what the disc is acutely for.

I’m sorry, you’re going to have to narrow down which Billionaire you’re referring to…
I wouldn’t qualify it as a Gen Z thing. As a Xennial, I have a quite a few Gen Z coworkers and most of them actively talk about recipes and meals they’re making and they are not just slapping some Mac and Cheese together and calling it. Some of the meals they’re talking about cooking are fairly advanced. At least two have dedicated pizza ovens and make their own dough. A number of them are cooking involved multi-course meals I’d never have tried until I was in my late 30’s… Hearing their recipes and such I’m fairly impressed on a regular basis.
I think it’s more related to experience and available time and CASH. One of them has fallen a bit back into hello fresh, a few times a week, but they just had a kid, so no blame there.
