There will be a huge amount of fraud from corp owned clinics and hospitals. Just like there already is. But they will try to do more fraud and over-charging while the system is being set up.
And behind door negotiations to allow for spurious overcharging on things like rx. Unless we require transparency at every corner and make it illegal for companies to charge over a certain profit margin amount.
BEFORE negotiations start. So there are hard limits. No exceptions for friends. Or bribes.
Luckily, a ton of people with experience working in health insurance will be needing new jobs.
I myself used to work in health insurance.
I remember when the Obama care kicked in. The company I worked for jacked up all the premiums. And lowered the benefits.
Because the Obama care paid what the individuals couldn’t. So the higher the premium and the worse the benefits, the more money the insurance company made.
They were charging people $500 a month for shit insurance. That was worse than what people had 6 months previously for $360. $2000 deductable (vs previous $900). Max out of pocket moved up to 5 digits when it had been around $6,000).
I wasn’t sure how that wasnt illegal. But they did it. And I never saw it change. I never saw any healthcare company getting called out for the premium spikes that only applied to people getting the ACA subsidies.
It’s waste like that , that I’m worried about.
These healthcare companies claimed that the ACA would cost them billions. Because people who were sick. Who had long standing health problems that were severe from not being treated, would be running to the DR now that they had insurance. (Yes, this was their real argument. God knows we had a fuck ton of meetings on it,)
Yet in reality, A law expanding health insurance to so many people, essentially getting a ton of people to buy their product (insurance) was going to make them $$$$$$
Like it was so obvious. They wouldn’t lose a dime. I knew they were blatantly lying to us workers. Constantly.
At the same time they fired more than half the people I worked with and outsourced the work to Malaysia. Blamed it on Obama.
So the u.s government gave billions to greedy companies that immediately cut corners to provide a lower quality product whilst simultaneously jacking up the subscription cost and paying out less than ever before.
Also that company was hcsc that I worked for. A blue cross subsidiary. (I think that’s the right term).
I have no doubt that all the big ones did this exact same thing though.
A whole new government department will need created, staffed.
With state oversight departments.
Billing software will need created unless existing is up to the task. Idk how old it is.
Reviews of hospitals and clinics costs and charges will need reviewed from every location and pricing allowances determined.
A lot of this already exists for Medicaid and Medicare though.
This would honestly take at minimum, 2 years. Even piggybacking from Medicaid/Medicare infrastructure and logistics.
Dental and vision will probably take longer.
But a lot of Medicaid/Medicare current work infrastructure likely needs a huge overhaul. I think there will be a demand to get it going.
It’s going to take an enormous amount of planning and human resources, but under the right project planner and good oversight , it can be done. Effeciently.
If the rich are so happy with private healthcare then they can keep paying extra all they want, but pay into the public system for the majority who wants this and knows it’s better. No more bankruptcies or lose it when job is gone, that’s more freedom and costs less too.
Call it “TrumpCare” and he’ll sign it with glee. Get this shit done, let us join the developed world!
And tell him Obama couldn’t get it done.
Maybe offer a fake medal like the FIFA peace prize.
I feel like this is THE masterful plan to get it done.
They should send people in to talk to donnie just before it comes to his desk. Preferably people he seems to be attracted to like Mamdani.
They can tell him he will be as beloved as FDR himself.
I think Trump will simply sign whatever is put in front of him because he’s almost illiterate and it’s too much trouble to read.
Send in Pamela Anderson, let’s get this done!
It’s possible Pamela of about 30 years ago would still be too old for him.
Maybe Sidney Sweeney?
Or he seems to really like the cabooses on John Husted and Nicki Minaj? Maybe get them to pitch it to him…
You’re totally right, this is Trump after all, of course Pamela is too old for him lol
Your suggestions are great!
That’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one.
More like “DoesTrumpCare”. Amiright?
Thank you, Thank you, Try the Veal.
No, you see, that money is earmarked for the military industrial complex.
Bernie is right.
Bernie has been right for 70 years. The last time he was wrong, he was in diapers, and quickly apologized once he learned to talk.
GO GO GO
We’ll end up with Medicare for More at best.
Please, please, medical debt is out of control in this country.
The presumed leader of the house says he doesn’t support medicare for all. So we need new leadership if we are to get anything done at all.
Yah Jefferries, needs to go…i signed the petition to have him removed for consideration, but what else is there to do? Im in a deep red bootlicking district so calling my senator/congress critter asking for change is akin to pissing in the wind hoping to taste the finest of champagnes.
Same stuck in Oklahoma. These morons still going all Republican here. Guess time to move back to Texas.
Ooofff I hear yah, I’m in the southeast and we just doubled down on stupid. Its baffling.
I have blue senators but a red house rep. So, contacted both senators and asked them to oust Schumer in favor of someone like Van Hollen. Considering contacting other house reps in the state who are Dems to request Jeffries ouster, figure it couldn’t hurt even if I’m not in their district.
Thank you! It must be quite a feeling to know your voice is heard!
This is where I’m at too. I was hoping for the blue wave to reach my red shore, but at least almost the entire rest of my state isn’t majority stupid redneck assholes.
Obviously power corrupts and it would be a bad idea in actuality, but I sometimes wonder what the country would look like after just 8 years of total progressive control in all branches, and no garbage right wing propaganda to issue marching orders to the dumbasses who rely on fox news to tell them what to think. Benevolent dictatorship for the working class, providing healthcare and education and food and shelter, and then see what’s popular when the choice is given back to the people. Want this to continue, or go back to indentured servitude to keep health insurance, and have your tax dollars go back to buying tanks we don’t need for wars we don’t want instead of buying food for your family.
It’s wild that I really don’t know whether forcing these chuds to experience utopia would even be enough to convince them to want it.
Ohh the brainwashing is so true…just need to look at your local Facebook threads and just see the parroting of bullshit, absent any real facts. I really think it comes down to nobody wants to read anymore and some people, maybe its a majority, get their news from short 30 second video clips and thats it…so easy to be misinformed without doing any real research or effort. Oh well.
It’s wild that I really don’t know whether forcing these chuds to experience utopia would even be enough to convince them to want it.
Ohh they would likely secretly love it and then publicly bash it depending on what their local news tells them to think about it. Shit we just passed a major cut to property taxes and now they are talking about shutting down parks, libraries and other social outlets to offset the local budget cuts. The amount of people cheering it on is just ridiculous.
Yeah, that’s why I included getting rid of the propaganda during that thought experiment.
Ignorant people don’t read, and therefore don’t understand why they should have to pay for libraries. I’m aware that libraries do more than loan out books, but they don’t know that. Because they’re ignorant. These are the same kinds of people who think they shouldn’t have to pay for public schools unless they or their kids are using them, and then they wonder why their property value is in the toilet when the schools fall apart. These fucking imbeciles truly cannot think more than one step ahead, to the point that the average 8 year old could probably beat a lot of them in connect four.
Ohh yah you made some great points.
Ignorant people don’t read
Yep and they still vote. But that is it right there as you stated…the question is how do you fix that? I certainly don’t have an answer for it, and now things are being jumped ahead to asking an AI chat bot on how to think or vote…so now is up to who controls the AI/LLM that determines what information people get back. Maybe we should give everyone in the country a subscription to a foreign newspaper like the guardian lol…yah that sounds like a horrible idea after reading that aloud lol.
I will drive my ass to Washington and scream in their faces until they replace him. Before then, writing my reps to vote for someone else every day.
Yes, it fucking ridiculous. CEO’s getting shot, people dying for stupid reasons…this would solve it, except the A-hole CEO’s.
The asshole CEOs are the ones donating campaign contributions. Until that legal bribery is reversed, the politicians will fall en mass to the will of the CEOs. But Clarence Thomas wanted an rv so now we’ve got citizens united.
If somebody donned a green hat each week until this passed, CEOs would move into a compound by week 3, and this would still not pass. I think it will take something much more extreme. There’s way too much for the owners to lose by letting health insurance slip through their fingers. It’s not just money, but control to keep the laborers obedient and loyal. We NEED health insurance, so we stay with our abusers. I don’t know what action it would actually take to get M4A, but I’m pretty sure that saying it would get me banned from a lot of internet platforms and maybe get feds knocking on my door to ask a few questions. It would take good trouble, to say the least.
It’s not just money, but control to keep the laborers obedient and loyal. We NEED health insurance, so we stay with our abusers.
Yep, it’s part of their “jobs you can’t quit” agenda (courtesy of Doctorow).
You’re the right for the most part. However, you can say what you like on the internet. I say we should kill all billionaires and execute Trump on a regular basis and nothing happens. Don’t make them out to be stronger than they are.
I mean, do it fucking now. (By now I mean early next year and not never, which is historically the timeline democrats work on)
The best Democrats can do is put it to a vote that will inevitably be shot down by a silent / lazy / cloture filibuster, and if not that, a veto by Trump. Still, they might as well do it and then point loudly to Republicans blocking the way of progress and campaign on this into 2028.
What Democrats won this cycle was a lifeline for the party, and hopefully a shift in their direction that distinguishes themselves from Republicans in an authentic way – not just “Republican-lite.” Especially if they pick these two seats up in Alaska and Mississippi then Congress looks very favorable to them in 2028 for whoever the Democratic President will be then. Second to that, what this did was enable Democrats to apply some brakes on Trump’s active smash and grab.
What Dems can do now:
-
They CAN skirt the silent filibuster with a procedures vote that only takes a simple majority (“nuclear option”). It’s not quite as comprehensive as truly removing it, but it would suffice (this is when Traitor Sinema curtsied and blocked its removal last time).
-
They CAN effectively abolish the Electoral College and push first at state-level and then in Congress (probably via omnibus bill) the The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Dems won enough state legislatures and Congress to do this! Put another way: If this was in place for 2016, Trump would’ve lost and would likely have been relegated to history thereafter.
-
They must start Congressional investigations, hearings, and issue subpoenas. Start holding accountable this regime and instilling fear. Already at least one Trump lawyer has resigned.
These things alone (along with the principled legislation of M4A noted above) would set Democrats up massively for 2028.

Yep, get rid of health insurance companies aside from as upgraded coverage. Works great in France and so many other places with superior health outcomes than the US.
Hell I’d even be fine following the German SHI system. Just something that would actually provide actual universal coverage and regulate the out of control insurance companies.
They’re charging six figures for appendectomies. They have insurance pay the negotiated rate then bill you the difference. So despite insurance, if you don’t have a reasonable out of pocket maximum, you’re going in debt regardless.
Yup. You want to only focus on economic relief because it’s too hard for your little leadership brain and body to do more than one thing, then do something bold to actually address economic relief and fix Romneycare the right way.
Recognize that corporations, and unions, want control of your health care to use as bargaining chips. That’s why it’s hard to get either side to let it out of corporate control.
I’ve been organizing unions for years. I’ve never once met a union staffer that wanted private healthcare over public healthcare to maintain bargaining power. Unions bargain healthcare because we have to, not because it’s a bargaining chip. If private healthcare dies, that creates substantially more bargaining power for workers.
Yep. If employees (union or otherwise) aren’t beholden to their employer for health care then those employers have to offer better pay and benefits to get and keep good employees.
Union staff are not the same people in leadership, especially among those deciding what candidates get donations or support.
The presidents of international unions are not the ones negotiating contracts. That would be the bargaining committee, and some staff from the union local.
Yep. They use it to keep you working. Do the math to see how far away you are from retirement if you weren’t saddled with healthcare premiums. It is bonkers that every single citizen is not in favor of it.
Start organizing protests. They won’t give it if everyone is only calling for it.
Jeffries says no
Jeffries must go
And sadly a lot of dems in the senate and house
