To congressional Democrats, Trump’s decision to promote aide Stephen Miller to serve as his chief of staff meant two things: an elevation of the aide’s extremist views and a refusal to heed the will of voters who delivered the left a historic victory.

“Stephen Miller is the architect of Project 2025, which included the push for ‘unitary executive power’ that Trump used to enrich himself and his billionaire buddies, enable the failed efforts of Elon Musk and DOGE [Department of Government Efficiency], the stripping of healthcare from millions of people, and the mass deportation agenda that led to ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and CBP [Customs and Border Protection] killing people in the streets, separating families, locking up kids and gutting the legal immigration system,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration, said in a statement.

Miller has been living on a military base for fear of his life. He knows he is not popular. He just doesn’t care.

What he will do is make work so awful (a double whammy of purposeful and through incompetence) the few good federal servants left will leave or get hamstrung.

Look, everyone likes making fun of this guy. Right? He’s a cartoon villlain. High school speech. His essays in college. Well, he’s a true believer. Those guys are the ones that will burn the world down rather than admit they are wrong.

I don’t think anyone recognizes how dangerous this is. Following the resignations in DOJ and military removals, they are not planning on lowering grocery prices over there folks.

Steven Miller is NOT the architect of 2025!

This article looses any credibility almost immediately.

Dude is hella dangerous and giving him MORE power speaks to how Trump (or his handlers, really) will play this massive repudiation by the American people.

They’ll just double down on the “strong” stuff they’ve been doing since their first day in office. Terrorize people they don’t like to look stronger and scarier than they are.

This makes the Iranian “attack” that is being talked about more likely in my mind… probably a bunch of other stupid stuff like actually pulling out of NATO and helping China invade Taiwan.

The Heritage Foundation, far right christian nationalist terrorist group at this point, was behind all the USAID cuts and attacks on our democracy. They also push the idea that China is a raging lunatic on the verge of attacking Taiwan. The heritage bigots use immigration, China and religion to get inside the heads of unsuspecting citizens who give up their rights and withdraw from global trade deals and treaties. Miller is smart but also a raging lunatic with messed up personality traits on full display. Miller can go away and become irrelevant unlike the heritage foundation with roots going back to the 70’s while enjoying massive funding from around the world.

        Exactly.

This isn’t to say they Miller-Trump can’t absolutely wreck us in massive ways, but Miller is much too “acute” and offensive to really make much of a “dent.”

The Heritage Foundation, on the other hand is a straight-up cancer that is actively killing us, though some of us tend to ignore it or embrace is as part of “who we are” without realizing how its end goal is to absolutely create a society that has no place for us, as ordinary people, other than as chattel for the rich and powerful.

Subpoena him non stop so he can’t actually do the job. If he doesn’t show send armed officials to arrest him.

I don’t see why this can’t be done. If the president can do whatever he wants laws be damned so can congress as a co equal branch.

      armed officials

Trump owns the armed officials, they will not cross him. I agree with subpoenaing him non-stop. It’s just that they will be hard pressed to find someone who will be willing to make good on enforcement.

Congress has capitols police and sergeant at arms, they aren’t completely without arms.

I don’t expect if the Congress wants to arrest someone that the military would stop them as the order to stop them would be blatantly illegal and they themselves could be arrested by Congress. Yes it would setup a conflict of significance but I think it’s time we start doing these kinds of things.

I agree that it is time to actually put muscle behind enforcement. Arresting Trump’s Chief of Staff will require coordination that I don’t see happening. Trump has too many levers to pull to get his neo-nazi staff out of jail.

This all goes to show that the Biden admin should have gone after Trump and his minions aggressively when they had the chance, ie no prisoners.

I agree on the Biden front this whole situation could have been avoided if he wasn’t weak on the crime.

That said I do think Congress should be trying everything it can to hold people accountable including the use of force. Hell if they need to enact new laws that say Congress has its own military force to be used to check the executive at a level beyond just laws I’d be ok with that. If the military is what is creating the power imbalance and these are supposed to be co equal branches then each branch should be able to enforce at all levels it’s will.

I’m not so sure… The military has taken a very dim view of Trump, especially the leadership

I’m sure there’s some retired special forces badasses who took their oath to the Constitution seriously and would do it for free

Now, getting the courts to force such a confrontation is very unlikely, even more so now that Trump has been so vehemently rejected by the American people. The problem is solving itself without an armed stand off, even if slowly and with unsatisfying consequences

This is totally the case, he was already running all the horrible programs he wants to run. Now he’s also going to be responsible for staffing the entire Trump Administration and keeping them organized. He doesn’t have this skill, and the Trump Admin is likely to become even more dysfunctional as a result.

I’m guessing that Trump’s brain has finally rotted away and that’s why his current responsibilities are choosing drapes and that sort of thing. Now that Trump has been humiliated by the last elections, they have no reason to hold back, so they put the true evil people into positions of power, and whatever goes wrong, it will just make Trump look like an idiot.

The brainrot has been there for longer than his current term. What’s changed is that for the first time he’s scared of failure.

In Trump’s first term he generally acted as a helmsman to the vast ship of the party and the country, trying to steer things in his new direction. This had a limiting effect on his actions, but also an insulating effect; he was never the cause of the failure (at least in his mind).

It was generally predicted that second term Trump would no longer have any interest in working with others, listening to others, or restraining his worst instincts, and that’s exactly what we’ve seen. But with a lack of restraint comes an increase in culpability. Everything Trump touches turns to shit, and with him quite defiantly leading the charge this time round there’s no longer anyone else to blame. The tariffs, the Iran war, ICE, they’re all him.

So he’s retreating. He’s pulling back to the things that he feels confident about. In his mind, he’s a builder, a real estate guy. This is something he feels like he knows. Pools and decorations and ball rooms are his bread and butter. In his mind, at least those he can’t fuck up (he will).

This is some revisionist history. He had no idea what he was doing other than trying to play the media and being combative. He selected mostly standard Republicans for his cabinet which tried to steer the ship. Trump was too busy drawing sharpies on hurricane maps to steer shit.
