The amount of influence that Texas has over textbooks ( which get used nation wide) is immense. This is huge for the whole country.

Texas rewrote history before it was popular, 16 years back or something. Now all the shitholy states are doing it.

They wrote out Jefferson because he beefed with the church, (jefferson was kind of a douche but he’s applicable to history regardless, I am an Aaron Burr partisan and he hated Jefferson,) and I forget all what else.

But I do remember, they called the slaves employees and stressed all of the life skills they were taught on the plantation. There was an outcry that that was not cotton, and they had to walk that part back a bit.

After 2020, they did way worse though. Criminal charges in states like TN for making a student or parent feel uncomfortable. History is not comfortable, never has been.

The governor was given a lot more power than originally intended for the position. I would like her and the education arm of the gov to roll back these asinine rules that only serve to stunt the educational growth of students.

Book ban removal, removal of the absolutely racist and classist voucher system, removal of propaganda disguised as history curriculum, investing in the arts and sciences, paying teachers what they’re worth, using standardized testing to show where more focus is needed instead of where to make cuts, and so forth should absolutely be achievable and focused on

We had standardized testing before, educators hated it, this is not in texas but a poorly run purportedly blue state full of nazis. We dropped everything to study for the tests, we used to skip the study periods and smoke weed, I and the non stupid stoners all aced them anyway. It’s geared towards the ignorant, as almost all of public school is, aside from fucking math which they do teach aggressively to those willing to learn it.

No child left behind was all to cut inner city funding for schools. If their scores are not up, they get cut, their scores are always lower because the anti intellectual culture we got going on over here. Every republican bill is double speak. (Name of Bill,) * -x = Real name of bill.

Well, yes but also no. They made funding contingent on passing the testing instead of seeing an area that needs more resources given more

Yeah, if this can stick and be long-lasting, maybe we start to reverse the decades of damage being done by conservatives to our education system.

Hope springs eternal, unlike the democratic establishment’s popular streak, which only threatens to bloom in elections then dies on the vine.

I believe this is why she won. I work in public education and even my republican friends were over Abbott killing our schools.

I’d like to believe that but I think in reality its the same reason for everyone that won: Trump, the economy, and his complicit party.

Schools are cutting teachers and paras, increasing class sizes, closing schools, and running 4 day weeks, struggling with deficits, while he accumulated a $27 billion dollar ‘rainy day fund’ and spent a billion dollars on a voucher program that basically reduces the price of private schools - not enough that they’re affordable for regular people, just enough to save his buddies some $ so their kids don’t have to go to school with the riff-raff rest of us.

I wonder if we could get a law passed to be like finland, which bans private schools. All the public schools have to be good schools if you can’t send your kid to a private school. I always thought that was a pretty neat idea they had.

So the same bullshittery as here however it seems we haven’t gotten bad enough to make the average voter open their eyes. Goddamn frustrating as a parent to two boys on the spectrum.

Doug Ford and the OPC does not care about our children.

School employees are actually a pretty big group. Almost everyone i know voted early. Even the Republicans i work with were complaining about Abbott. It’s become so unpleasant to work in the schools that people are finding it harder to work until retirement age. For some people it has to impact their money before they’ll stand up for kids.

I imagine one of the first steps to establishing a state religion is to indoctrinate kids into it.
